Free Event! Collins Canal Centennial Celebration- November 3, 2012

Free Event at the Bandshell on the Canal at Washington Ave & 21st Street

Get ready to party like its 1912! Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) and the Collins Park Neighborhood Association (CPNA) present an all-day family event to celebrate the 100th Birthday of the Collins Canal in Miami Beach. 
 
10:00am to 6:00pm

Celebration headquarters: The Bandshell at Washington Avenue and Dade Blvd.
The Collins Canal Centennial Celebration will commemorate 100 years since the opening of the Collins Canal.  Miami Beach founder John Collins created the canal in 1912, in order to move his avocado crop across Miami Beach to sell in Miami.  This celebration is the first of many centennial celebrations that the City of Miami Beach is sponsoring leading up to the City’s 100th birthday in 2015.

Festival Activities will include:
  • Musical performances
  • Food Trucks
  • Free historic walking tours of the Collins Canal and Collins Park neighborhood provided by MDPL
  • Presentation of proclamation commemorating 100 years of history by Commissioner Jorge Exposito
  • Collins Canal closed to motor craft and open to kayaks, canoes and paddleboards
  • Avocado class at Miami Beach Botanical gardens at 10:00am
  • Period costumes encouraged
  • Activities for children
