Florida Grand Opera- La Rondine- January 21st-February 4th

In 1913, Giacomo Puccini was approached in Vienna about composing an operetta, and having come to know and admire the work of Franz Lehár, he accepted the challenge. La rondine’s premiere took place at the opera house in Monte Carlo in 1917, and although it never attained the popularity of many of Puccini’s other works, it has recently enjoyed considerable new interest, attracting leading singers in productions at major opera houses. Magda’s aria “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” is one of Puccini’s most beautiful and is justifiably famous. La rondine means “the swallow” and refers to a prediction made early in the opera that although Magda may spread her wings in search of love and romance, she, like the swallow, will return to the place and life that she knows.

The Gala in the Garden is Fairchild's annual black-tie event and largest fund-raiser. The Fairchild Gala attracts a "who’s who" of South Florida’s business and social worlds while showcasing the splendor, beauty and mission-based programs of the garden. All proceeds from the Gala in the Garden support Fairchild's programs in conservation science, education, horticulture and collection management.
The evening commences with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the beautiful Italian mosaic of the Jean duPont Shehan Visitor Center with the eagerly-awaited silent auction running throughout the cocktail hour and evening. Guests will then proceed to a large lakeside marquis for a five-star dining experience and dancing to the music of the Soul Survivors. The Fairchild Gala captures the magic of beauty and elegance alongside a fun and enjoyable evening while raising significant funds for its mission specific programs.

We look forward to sharing a truly beautiful evening benefiting Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. For more information please contact Susannah Shubin, at sshubin@fairchildgarden.org or 305.667.1651, extension 3375.

Tatiana Fontes at SET- January 20th

Today most 12 year-old girls would tell you their favorite band is Hannah Montana, but if you asked Tatiana Fontes at that same age, she would've said Duran Duran. However this is not surprising considering she's been a part of the music scene her entire life. Although Tatiana had an obvious affinity for music early on, her career took a different direction at the age of 15 when she began receiving offers for modeling gigs in her hometown. Even though modeling wasn’t her biggest passion, she liked the opportunities it offered. Tatiana went on to be an international model doing major campaigns, commercials, editorials, fashion shows, and billboards.
