The Miami Dance Festival is a six-week celebration, highlighting the art of dance and its traditions from April 2 to May 15. The festival is presented by the Momentum Dance Company and features a diverse variety of genres and styles of dance with concert performances from seven dance companies, lectures, panel discussions, master classes, film and more.
Performances and classes will be held throughout Miami and Miami Beach at the Colony Theater, Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Miami Beach Cinematheque, the Byron Carlyle Theatre, Cocoplum Women's Club, the Bass Museum of Art, and the Little Haiti Cultural Center.
The Aqua Girl event will be held in Miami Beach from May 11-15 this year, benefiting the Aqua Foundation for Women, a not-for-profit foundation whose primary mission is to serve as the funding catalyst for lesbian, bisexual, and transgender wellness and equality in South Florida through grants, scholarships and initiatives.
The event is the largest charity women's week in the country, and begins with a VIP cocktail reception on Saturday (May 7th) night, and continues throughout the week with the "Lady Luck Bowlathon," walking tours of South Beach, nightclub and pool parties, a comedy show featuring Suzanne Westenhoefer, music concerts, and much more.
Tickets to each event are sold separately and can be bought in advance or at the door, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the foundation. Click here for a detailed list of all of the events and links to purchase tickets.
This year Cinco de Mayo festivities will be held at a number of hot-spots around Miami. The top place to go in South Beach will (of course) be Oh Mexico! at 1440 Washington Avenue in the historic Espanola Way Village. Starting at 6 pm, the 10th annual street festival sponsored by Sauza tequila and Dos Equis beer will feature mariachi music, DJs and live bands, special Mexican dance performances, free margarita shots, and even stilt walkers!
LIV nightclub at the Fountainebleau Resort in Miami Beach will be hosting their "Dirty Sanchez" party with a great line-up of DJs, including DJ Ross One, Contra, and Jessica Who spinning on the turn tables.
Rosa Mexicano in downtown Miami will have a special themed menu, with Happy Hour from 4-7 pm featuring half-priced cocktails and appetizers, live music, and prizes and giveaways all day Wednesday.
