Ed Ruscha, whose career spans five decades, is known for his use of langauge to document and comment on the shifting character of American culture. Ruscha drew inspiration from the classic American novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac in his own limited art book version of the novel, and has created new body paintings, drawings and photographs.

Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDS Awareness Posters 1985–2010- until September 2, 2012


The Wolfsonian-Florida International University is the recipient of a donation from Henry S. Hacker of more than thirty-six hundred AIDS-themed posters from over eighty countries, produced between 1985 and 2010. To mark this major gift, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University presents the exhibition Graphic Intervention: 25 Years of International AIDS Awareness Posters 1985-2010 beginning on May 11, 2012. Graphic Intervention explores the role the poster has played in global efforts to prevent HIV/AIDS and promote awareness and safe sex education.

Introspection and Awakening: Japanese Art of the Edo and Meiji Period, 1615-1912-until October 21, 2012


The exhibition features 225 paintings, sculpture, prints, ceramics, and lacquer from the 17th - early 20th century from the permanent collection, which address a variety of themes, including the influence of China and Korea on Japan during this crucial timeframe; the role of the artist and pupil and the close association with other artists and patrons; the Japanese life-style and belief structure; and the impact of the West.
