Bird Road Art Walk- March 17

The artists of the Bird Road Art District (BRAD) host an art walk the third Saturday of each month. 7-10 p.m.

Located just off the Palmetto Expressway between Bird Road (SW 40 Street) and SW 48 Street, you will find a thriving community of more than thirty artists' studios, art galleries, art schools, a live theater group called Akuara Teatro and Speak!, a stage for spoken word that happens every Friday night.

Today the Bird Road Art District continues to attract artists and is home to emerging and well established artists' studios working in a variety of media and disciplines as well as a mix of art schools, a quaint retail section and professional offices all blended to create one of Miami's more unique communities.

The lucky 7th year of the two-day Jazz in the Gardens music festival returns to Miami Gardens with an incredible lineup sure to put the audience at Sun Life Stadium on their feet. Beginning Saturday, March 17, 2012, "Jazz in the Gardens" attendees will be treated to exhilarating performances by Jill Scott, Kem, Ledisi, Doug E Fresh and Ramsey Lewis. The Sunday, March 18, 2012 lineup will feature the incomparable voices of Mary J Blige, Patti LaBelle and Nicole Henry as well as the smooth instrumental sounds of Kenny G and Kevin Eubanks.

Dance Now Miami- March 17th

Dance NOW! Supports the best and the brightest up-and-coming local choreographers by presenting their work at the Little Haiti Cultural Center Theatre. 7 p.m.

Dance NOW! Miami was founded by Diego Salterini and Hannah Baumgarten through a chance encounter at a South Florida dance collective. The two quickly became dance partners and creative collaborators. Described as “...carnal and courageous…… with an impressive range of movement and motion”, (Mia Leonin, Miami Art Guide) the work bridges the directors’ diverse backgrounds in ballet, modern dance and jazz, creating poetic narrative and theatrical artistry filled with fierce athleticism, featuring world-class performers and collaborators.

FlamenJazz Jam- March 16-18

Siempre Flamenco's guitarist Paco Fonta teams up with jazz vibraphonist Richard Sprince for an exciting journey of musical dialogue, exploring connections between the two musical genres. The heat and passion of flamenco and the cool licks of jazz both share improvisation as an important element in their musical traditions, thus the concept of a FlamennJazz Jam. The show will include Flamenco dancing by acclaimed artists Celia Fonta and Paola Escobar. The program will feature original compositions by both Paco Fonta and Richard Sprince as well as an arrangement of the classic Jazz composition Crystal Silence by Chick Corea, set to flamenco rhythm. The traditional flamenco dances, Taranto and Alegrias, will be flavored with the mesmerizing sound of the vibraphone. Drums played by Romulo Bernal will round out this unique Flamenco Jazz experience.

     Doc Miami International Film Festival in partnership with Miami International Film Festival and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau presents Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend, in celebration of Miami Film Month.
A kaleidoscopic portrait of the making of a legend. Through intimate scenes shot on a Sony video camera in 1970s Jamaica filmmaker Esther Anderson artfully constructed the union between Reggae and Rasta that launched the international career and renowned image of Bob Marley and The Wailers. Revisiting that formative time she reveals to what degree her original vision set in motion the radical change of perception and consciousness both musically and
