Selections from the Collection- until February 2013
The permanent collection of the Bass
Museum of Art spans more than five hundred years and four continents,
including works from Renaissance and Baroque paintings; Rococo court
painting and English portraiture; painting and sculpture of North
America, 19th and 20th century landscape and history paintings; painting
and sculpture of North America, Latin America and the Caribbean;
contemporary photography; Asian art; European decorative arts; as well
as a unique collection of works on paper. Works from the collection will
be rotated on a regular basis in the Bass Museum's Taplin Gallery, as
well as the newly renovated Peter E. and Annemarie H. Houghton Gallery,
located on the first level of the museum. Also on view is The
Tournament, which has a particularly prestigious provenance in that it
was part of Henry VIII's collection at Knole House in England and was
later purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan in the early twentieth-century
before it came into John Bass's collection.
