Borscht 8 is the flagship event of the 2012 Borscht Film Festival, where the freshest films telling Miami stories will debut.
Borscht commissioned some of the best local and regional filmmakers to make short films about the city. Their films will screen alongside other shorts from the Miami community, in a night celebrating stories only a city as strange and beautiful as Miami could inspire.
Last year, our hometown audience got a sneak peek at films that went on to play at over 40 International film festivals and became viral hits online. This year, we expanded our list of commissioned filmmakers and flew in groundbreaking artists from as far away as London and South Africa to make independent short films about our city.
Almost 500 people were turned away from last year's Borscht 7 at the Knight Concert Hall. This year, we have restructured our ticketing system to ensure that the people who really want to go will have a ticket. Moreover, the earlier you buy, the cheaper the ticket.
Borscht is funded by a Arts Challenge Grant from John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to continue "forging the cinematic identity of Miami both locally and globally," in its mission to "redefine Miami in cinema."
Some films contain Adult Language, Sexual Situations, Nudity, and/or Strobe Lighting. Not
