Miquel
Navarro was born in Valencia and graduated from the San Carlos School
of Fine Art in Valencia. He started his career in 1972 as a painter and
has since worked exclusively in sculpture. The work of Miquel Navarro
is characterized by his unmistakable representations of cities or
“clusters” and constitute a prototype he uses for his sculptural
installations when grouping together small pieces, configured as diverse
urban buildings, ranging from houses to factories, from ornamental to
representational. Their structure is based on what is clearly an
imaginary urbanism, a key aspect of Navarro’s works, now part of the
IVAM’s permanent collection thanks to the generous donation of 515
pieces. This collection of works reflects his different stages allowing
viewers to appreciate his creative style.

early 1900s, John Kunkel Small lived on the second floor of the Richmond
Cottage, using the Deering Estate at Cutler as a base for his
explorations through the hammock and the Everglades. For over a decadeJK
Small documented the development and destruction of Florida. Author

to Sahara – Florida’s Tragedy” which parallels his own travel, study and
writings on the regions rich flora and fauna.
Background: Bill Belleville is an environmental writer & documentary
filmmaker, living in North Florida. According to Carl Hiaasen, "Bill
Belleville writes gorgeously and straight from the heart." In his own
words, Belleville believes “You just have to allow yourself the luxury
of immersing the senses fully in the moment. This particular place is at
the edge of a slow oxbow of a nearby springfed river. In the rainy
season, the swamp here rises and old back-island branches and dry creeks
are revitalized again.”
What began in 1963 as an intimate “clothes line” art show
featuring a handful of artists and a few thousand onlookers as part of a
promotion for the Coconut Grove Playhouse’s production of Irma la Douce

festival. Today, the event attracts an estimated 120,000 people to the

and displays to select participants in such categories as mixed media,
painting, photography, digital art, printmaking & drawing,
watercolor, claywork, glass, fiber, jewelry & metalwork, sculpture
and wood.
Proceeds help fund year-round arts
programs benefitting a scholarship fund that will create opportunities

education. Since its inception in 1963, the association has awarded more
