Jazz at MOCA- August 30, 2013

The popular Jazz at MOCA series presents free outdoor concerts on the last Friday of every month. Music starts at 8 p.m. The museum is open from 7 to 10 p.m. by donation.

Max Farber is a veteran pianist on the Miami music scene. He is a graduate of Dillard School for the Arts and New World School of the Arts. He began working as a pianist in Miami almost 20 years ago. Max also lived in New York for 8 years where he also worked with many great musicians. Some of the most notable performances were at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts with Dillard,The Museum Of Contemporary Art with Pablo Cano as musical director, The Colony Theatre on Miami Beach with Stop, Look, Listen and many others. You can catch Max playing with everything
from salsa bands, to rock bands, to jazz groups. Most recently Max visited New York where he played at the famous Blue Note Jazz Club.

Ed Ruscha: On the Road- until September 2


Ed Ruscha, whose career spans five decades, is known for his use of langauge to document and comment on the shifting character of American culture. Ruscha drew inspiration from the classic American novel On the Road by Jack Kerouac in his own limited art book version of the novel, and has created new body paintings, drawings and photographs.

Optic Nerve XIV Film Festival- August 24

MOCA's annual film festival featuring short films by emerging artists and filmmakers. Films by selected finalists will be screened at 7 and 9 p.m. One of the films will be purchased for the museum's permanent collection.

This is the first solo US museum exhibition of the work of Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson. A musician as well as artist, Kjartansson has been drawn to the theater and performance since he formed a band in his teenage years. The exhibition includes a selection of video works from the last decade.
