New Work Miami 2013- until June 2, 2013

This year, Miami Art Museum is pleased to present New Work Miami 2013, the second iteration of the highly successful New Work Miami 2010. Like the inaugural edition, this exhibition is conceived as a salute to Miami's community of artists. It will include a number of newly commissioned projects and special programs. Miami Art Museum will celebrate the opening of New Work Miami 2013 during Party on the Plaza, the museum's signature Art Basel Miami Beach event. Since this will be the museum's last exhibition in its current building at 101 West Flagler, it will symbolically initiate the final countdown to MAM's momentous reopening in the fall of 2013 at the new, Herzog & de Meuron-designed facility that is currently under construction in Museum Park. New Work Miami 2013 is organized by Miami Art Museum and co-curated by MAM Associate Curators René Morales and Diana Nawi. Support is provided by Nedra and Mark Oren.

Kimsooja: A Needle Woman- until August 26, 2012

On view at MAM from Friday, June 29 to Sunday, August 26, 2012, Kimsooja's A Needle Woman consists of an eight-channel video installation set in the densely populated centers of Cairo, Delhi, Lagos, London, Mexico City, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo. In each projection, a lone figure stands utterly motionless with her back to the camera, immersed amid a torrent of pedestrians. With this simple gesture, the artist exemplifies the perennial struggle to preserve a place for the individual within contemporary society, while poetically embodying the experience of being engulfed within a foreign culture. In the process, she provides a vivid sense of globalization's impact on cities throughout the world. The presentation also includes two closely related works by Kimsooja: In A Needle Woman - Kitakyushu, the artist lies prostrate atop a rocky peak as clouds swirl hypnotically above her, while in A Laundry Woman - Yamuna River, she stands at the banks of a sacred waterway in India, suspended amid an ethereal void created by the sky's reflection on the river surface. The pair offers a vision of timeless serenity as a counterpoint to the frenetic energy of the 21st-century global city. Kimsooja: A Needle Woman is organized by Miami Art Museum and curated by MAM Associate Curator René Morales. Address:

Between Here and There: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Permanent Collection- until March 2013

The exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to see the strides MAM has made in building a "Miami point of view" of developments in modern and contemporary art, while preparing for the collection's permanent installation at Museum Park. Between Here and There focuses on the cultures of the Atlantic Rim - the Americas, Europe and Africa-from which the vast majority of Miami residents hail. Included within this broader framework will be the work of a number of artists residing in South Florida, many of whom are paradigms of this intercultural dialogue. Address:
