This year’s celebration will include a special concert by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, concessions, patriotic mascots and a spectacular fireworks display. The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Ave., with the concert at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. Admission is free.

4th of July 2013! at the Barnacle

Begin your Independence Day celebration with a good old-fashioned picnic at The Barnacle Historic State Park. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the whole family can enjoy traditional board games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and more. Learn to make and fly your own kite. Pack your own picnic lunch or purchase hot dogs, burgers and other treats from The Barnacle Society. Entry is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6 to 12, and free for kids under six. The event features performer, J.D. Danner. A New York girl with Southern roots, Danner has received awards from Fort Hood Army Base, Forgotten Soldiers Outreach and the Disabled American Veterans for her music in support of our troops. No alcohol, please.

Directions: The Barnacle is located in Coconut Grove (Miami) at 3485 Main Highway.

Kids can make their own kites, toy boats, and paper dolls in order to understand how different children's lives were a hundred years ago. Prizes are awarded to those kids that complete a historical scavenger hunt. Bring your own picnic or buy burgers, hot dogs, and veggie dogs here. 11-4 p.m.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. with a flyover of jets, and proceed south on Crandon Boulevard from Harbor Drive to West Enid. There will be patriotically themed professional floats, other personally decorated and creative entries in the lineup and the marching groups. See and hear the bands, and special entertainment from unique performers in our hometown parade.
