Splendor in the Garden- Fairchild Botanical Garden- January 23, 2014

Local 10 News Anchor Laurie Jennings serves as this year’s emcee for Splendor in the Garden, the third annual fashion show fundraiser co-chaired by Swanee DiMare and Frances Sevilla-Sacasa. Ken Downing, senior vice president and fashion director for Neiman Marcus, and Neiman Marcus Coral Gables are putting together the hottest styles for Spring 2014. Enjoy a champagne reception and delicious lunch by Le Basque Catering as you watch models walk down the runway in the most coveted looks and colors of the season. Clothes can be purchased right off the runway at the Backstage Boutique.                                                                                              

The 2014 Fairchild Philanthropy Honorees will also be recognized.
Splendor in the Garden is sponsored by Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne and Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables & Cutler Bay.

All proceeds will benefit Fairchild’s conservation science, education, and horticulture programs.

Moonlight Tour and Everglades Lecture- February 21, 2013

Join us to experience Fairchild under the stars from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
There will be tram rides, yoga from Rina Yoga at 7:00 p.m. and music from guitarist Rob Freedman.

There will also be a Members' Lecture from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. entitled Getting to Know the Everglades by Dan Kimball, Superintendent, Everglades National Park.

This presentation will provide an introduction to Everglades National Park, a review of progress and challenges in restoring the Park's imperiled ecosystem, as well as an update on new developments, programs, and opportunities in the Park.

Gala in the Gardens at Fairchild Botanical Gardens- February 2, 2013

The Gala in the Garden is Fairchild's annual black-tie event and largest fund-raiser. The Fairchild Gala attracts a "who’s who" of South Florida’s business and social worlds while showcasing the splendor, beauty and mission-based programs of the garden. All proceeds from the Gala in the Garden support Fairchild's programs in conservation science, education, horticulture and collection management.
         The evening commences with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the beautiful Italian mosaic of the Jean duPont Shehan Visitor Center with the eagerly-awaited silent auction running throughout the cocktail hour and evening. Guests will then proceed to a large lakeside marquis for a five-star dining experience and dancing to the music of the Soul Survivors. The Fairchild Gala captures the magic of beauty and elegance alongside a fun and enjoyable evening while raising significant funds for its mission specific programs.
        The Gala in the Garden is considered the "social event of the season," and as in previous years, will be limited to 400 guests to ensure an intimate and personal experience. Table and individual guest reservations are typically sold out by the Fall, so reserve your seats soon. Prices begin at $600 per person; tables for ten begin at $6,000. The Fairchild Gala also needs additional underwriting support.-- 6:30pm

Fairchild Botanical Gardens presents the Plant ID Workshop- February 1, 2013

Is there a plant in your garden but you just don’t know what it is? Then, bring it to Fairchild’s Herbarium and let our Scientists uncover its origin! Bring a cutting from your plant to Fairchild’s Herbarium team on the first Friday of every month at 1:00 p.m. and participate in our Plant Identification Workshop.

Space is limited to the first twelve people that reserve online.

Please no photographs, real specimens only.

The Plant ID Workshop is held at Fairchild's Center for Tropical Plant Conservation in the front seminar room, located at:

The Historic Division of Mars: From Bean to Bar: About The Historic Division of Mars:

The Historic Division of Mars’ mission is to share chocolate’s rich past by allowing people to taste and experience the fusion of history and Mars’ 100 years of chocolate making excellence.  This is accomplished through scholarly research, product development and education.

In 2003, Mars undertook an extensive global research initiative to uncover the true history of chocolate. Through a partnership with University of California at Davis and historic partners such as Colonial Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, Fort Ticonderoga, Historic Deerfield and the Fortress of Louisbourg, Mars  leveraged an international team of historians, food researchers, and experts  to compile the most comprehensive and accurate account of chocolate's journey to North America, titled Chocolate: History, Culture and Heritage. Wiley 2009.
