The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the most sought-after
performing ensembles in the world. In concerts at its winter home in
Severance Hall and at each summer's Blossom Festival, in residencies
from Miami to Vienna, and on tour around the world, the Orchestra sets
the highest standards for artistic excellence and creative programming. A
10-year partnership with Franz Welser-Möst has earned the Orchestra
frequent international tours, as well as U.S. tours that include regular
appearances at Carnegie Hall.
Through an unprecedented long-term residency project, the Orchestra
has performed in Miami annually since 2007, providing a wide array of
community and educational activities in addition to its concerts at the
Adrienne Arsht Center. The landmark residency was recently renamed The
Cleveland Orchestra Miami, and the Orchestra and the Arsht Center are
collaborating to present this concert on the Knight Masterworks season.
In March 2012, Giancarlo Guerrero made his debut at
the Arsht Center as the Orchestra's Principal Guest Conductor. A native
of Nicaragua and raised in Costa Rica, the maestro began his tenure as
Music Director of the Nashville Symphony in 2009, and has led the
orchestra in several world premieres and earned four Grammy Awards. In
addition, he conducts on five continents and annual visits Caracas,
Venezuela and works with the country's much-lauded El Sistema music education program. Mr. Guerrero served as music director of Oregon's Eugene Symphony from 2003 to 2009.
